Childcare Act

The Dutch Childcare Act (2010) regulates the quality, financing and surveillance of childcare in the Netherlands. Childcare providers are required to deliver care that contributes to the personal and physical development of the child in a safe and healthy environment. The Act defines the quality standards with which childcare providers must comply, setting minimum requirements for:

  • Smell FlowerParental participation at governance level
  • Staff qualifications, expertise and record of good behavior
  • Health and safety
  • The area and layout of the center
  • The ratio of carers to children and maximum group sizes
  • Pedagogical policy and practice
  • Communication with the children
  • Handling complaints

Oya’s Childcare always strives for a quality level that is higher than these requirements.

All childcare providers must be listed in the National Childcare Registry (Landelijk Register Kinderopvang en Peuterspeelzalen or LRKP) and are inspected annually by the council health service (gemeentelijke gezondheidsdienst or GGD), which determines whether the required standards are being met.

Childcare centers are required to keep copies of these inspection reports in house for anyone to look through on request.
